The Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MWACSMED) together with Bulawayo Stakeholders have started preparing for the biggest annual event to commemorate the 16 days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence.
The Ministry in partnership with various stakeholders will host a commemorative event under the national theme “Creating Zero Tolerance to Sexual Harassment at the Work Place” and the international theme “End Gender Based Violence in the World of Work” on 30 November 2018 in Bulawayo province at a venue yet to be advised
Speaking during a planning meeting held on the 14th of November 2018, Mr Ntando Mhlanga from MWACSMED said that 16 days of activism is a time to oppose violence against women and children around the world. The International Campaign runs from 25 November to 10 December every year.
Mhlanga also said that this year the nation chose to address issues of sexual Harassment in the work place after realising that more issues of abuse arise from the work place which mostly affect women.
Organisations that are currently taking part in preparations for the campaign include MWACSMED, Save our Souls Children’s Village (SOS), Musasa Projects, Plan International, Bulawayo City Council (BCC), South Western Region Gender Network (SWRGN) and DP Foundation.
The Ministry of Women Affairs said it was inviting more stakeholders to take part and make pledges towards the successful hosting of the event and overall campaign.
